Sustainable luxury • There’s a moment in the Fisher & Paykel Experience Centre in Auckland where the everyday disappears. In its place is something unapologetically refined; it is the architectural expression of its inventive Fabric Care collection: groundbreaking, considered, and designed in New Zealand.

Pavilions on the ridge • High above the sea between Whale Bay and Rangihoua, this house by +MAP Architects makes an art form of restraint. It sits lightly on the land — three cedarclad pavilions arranged around a sheltered courtyard, carefully angled to capture light and the majestic views that stretch from the Hole in the Rock to the hills of Waitangi.

Black Ridge • High on a ridge flanking the Pukenui Forest, Black Ridge House — the 2022 Rural Home of the Year — was designed for a growing family as a retreat that taps into the character of Northland’s wilderness, just beyond the edge of Whangārei's suburban development.

Alpine clarity • Luminous, natural, and light: the whites in the Dulux Colours of New Zealand range have become timeless favourites. These tried and tested colours have been used by architects and designers for over 20 years, and the newest white is equally as alluring: Dulux Mt Hutt.

Arrival statements • The latest in a long line of perfectly distilled collections from Powersurge is the Entrada range of handles — pieces of rigour and subtlety, specifically designed for large portals.

Natural opulence

Transparency and permanence • It begins with dust: fine, dry, and strangely weighty. Packed and labelled with numeric codes, PeterFell’s coloured oxides read like elements — ready to be combined with concrete and set in permanence.

The house that wasn't trying to be difficult • A lot can happen in a decade — or very little. It took almost 10 years to bring this family home to fruition, but it was well worth the wait.

Green style • From a sun-drenched, loft-style boutique in Auckland’s St Heliers, a small team of experts is redefining indoor greenery with a bespoke in-home potted plant design offering — a service that sits somewhere between landscape and interior design.

Modern rhythm • This mid-century home has been thoughtfully renovated by Schwarz Design to celebrate the essence of its time while introducing a vibrant contemporary narrative.

High life • High above Tāmaki Makaurau’s hectic Queen Street, a haven is created to contain precious art and objects.
